Extremely good food! Always fresh and always tasty. I love the true country taste of this restaurant and the health standards. Most of their food is very hearty and are top of the line. Our favorite waitresses are Mary and Jaimie. They are great at their jobs and so attentive. We love them! I love Mel's! A+!

Very good grouper sandwich but the fries were on the soft and skinny side. My friend really enjoyed her salad with a gorgeous piece of salmon in it. Big iced teas with refills. Service was good and the food came out promptly as expected. I'll order the grouper sandwich again and definitely "Blackened" like this one was.

I got a really good breakfast here before a 7 hour flight and what a good choice! held me over and I felt great after. Amazing service and my server really made me feel at home offering me various selections other than ones listed. She knew what was best :)

Excellent american food. It has a little bit of a retro feel, but not too over the top. I have liked everything I have ever ordered there. Especially the sandwiches. The portions are big, so I always have lunch for the next day.

Food is good. Service is a cut below mediocre. I get it. It's a kitschy 50's themed restaurant great for families. The bad: Being seated with the families when we could have, and should have been seated in the quieter half of the restaurant. It was just me and my elderly dad, and we would have enjoyed conversation, if not for the screaming kids in our section of the dining room. If there is a next time, we will ask to be reseated. Prime Rib on the menu...but they ran out. It was 6:00 on a Wednesday night. Really? Understaffed and overwhelmed. While our waitress was very nice, our service was below par. No silverware on the table, had to ask a busboy. Very few stops to check for beverage refills. She was too busy with the families of 6 and 8 people at the other tables. This was one of the few times I tipped less than 20%. The good: My pot roast was above average. My dad enjoyed his chopped steak. The final bill was reasonable.

I don't like ice in my apple juice I also don't like people's personal stories as I'm trying to eat or better yet leave. That doesn't make me want to tip more it makes me not want to come back. Typically to me the food is and has always been a 3 star. Editable but not great but not horrible. I got a BBLT.... How this gets screwed up is beyond me but the toast was TOOOOO CRUNCHY to the point it wouldn't shock me if they burnt it and scrapped off the burns, the bacon might as well have been burnt considering how crunchy and greasy it was not to mention FLAVORLESS. The coleslaw was not yummy either wasn't even the slightest sweet hardly any liquid. Then got seated where all the waitress and waiters walk past to get to the bar and kitchen it was annoying. The only thing that was good was my English muffin. To my surprise wasn't over cooked yet not crunchy enough. Idk they're always my last resort.

Well I have not been here for a while. But it was good and tasty food. My good. Shrimp linguine was flavored just right My wifey enjoyed. My Ruben was surprising good. Good amount of cheese, corn beef, kraut, toasted rye. Beer batter onion ring outstanding. Service excellent. My only issue was I wish the rye bread was dark. BUT thats me. Definitely will be back.

Went to Mel's tonight for the Sanibel salad. The salad is normally very good. Tonight though, when the plate was placed in front of me I began removing the grilled chicken to a separate plate. While placing the chicken on the plate I could see that the chicken tenders were still very pink in color. Needless to say I did not eat the chicken. I did eat part of the salad, sure hope the raw chicken didn't get on the part of the salad that I ate.

Been here twice as my parents always go there. Best prime rib I have had anywhere hands down! Love this place.

My husband and I ate here for lunch today. We were seated immediately and they brought our drinks right away. Our server's name was CJ and he was always there to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was excellent. My husband ordered a burger while I asked for a Greek salad with blackened salmon. The portions were large, moist, and savory. I will definitely go back.

I've been to a Mel's diner before but this one was terrible. Service not so great. Food not so great. Milkshake not so great. Rating for overall experience at this location not so great. We won't be going back.

Had the ribs for lunch and onion rings. Received excellent services. Plenty of food for left overs for lunch. I would recommend this place to anyone.

"A glorified Huddles": Remember the old Huddle restaurants? Mels reminded me of those, except it's bigger. Lot's of choices, good service. Reasonable prices for Florida. Stop in for coffee and watch all the snowbirds.

My wife and I ate brunch there this morning, everybody was very happy with the food and atmosphere, best of all, was our waitress Liza, she took very good care of us, I had the baconado omlette, my life long best friends, John and Kathy from Rhinelander, Wi. had the overeasy eggs with bacon and the eggs benedict, and said it was wonderful, and my wife had the belgin waffle, said it was very good. We will definitely be going back for lunch or dinner sometime soon!!!

I'm sad. My parents brought the family here to their fave breakfast place. Maybe I'm spoiled because of the choices back home, but this food was below average for us. Decor and music was fun and clean. Service was fast and friendly. My mom raved about the benedicts and I got the mushroom one. Eggs were hard and the accompanying mushrooms/spinach had a bitter, funky taste. Potatoes were not totally cooked. Sad. Kids had Belgian waffles (meh) and cake-n-eggs. Both reported the whipped cream was watery. Son said blueberries "tasted weird" and he did not finish. Hubby got the oatmeal that he liked and an egg white omelet that he shrugged at when I asked him how it was. This placed was packed and many folks were eating alone. Lots of booths and comfy seating for all. I'll probably try it again since my parents like it and will try some different foods next time.

This is from a parent point of view-while the price for a kids menu seems like a really great deal(3.99) and a free dessert. They charge you a dollar to add a little bit of chocolate syrup to a cup of milk. The cup is the size of a to go coffee cup. Then refills are not free for milk, not even white milk. But I could get my three-year-old all the sodas she wanted. Again the cup was so small. The next problem is they don't give you anything like crayons or paper or anything to keep the kids busy. So parents come prepared. Now when it come to the food, they must of been having an off night. My husband and I have been to Mel's probably over 20 times. But probably not in the last year. I had openface turkey sandwich. He had fried fish. My turkey didn't taste like turkey. I was glad I had a lot of gravy. He said his fish had no flavor. We agree we will not be back for a long time. On a positive note our waitress was very nice.

I love Mel's a variety of home dishes and $3 margaritas. I love the old time decor. The people are friendly and the food is great. Larger portions on some dishes. I like their open face sandwiches. And their endless fish plater.

Had a great meal and everything was hot. Waitstaff was excellent, very knowledgeable about the menu. Got seated as soon as we arrived.

My first time here was not so great. Tried the special. Tonight was beef stroganoff. Also ordered soup which didn't exactly make it to me to try, but I hear it is good. Also ordered fried pickles which were a little salty for my taste. The special was a little runny. So I would say what I ordered was just ok. What lost the third star really came down to service. The waitress was nice but really distracted. I don't think she meant to be rude, but it wasn't the best experience. She had poor eye contact and seemed to have more important things on her mind. Maybe I will give it another try next year.

Easily the best breakfast and best service in Fort Myers/Cape area. Mary and Grace are two of the best servers I have ever had the privilege of being served by. I really look forward to breakfast when I can make it there.

My first visit, and I can't wait to return. :) I got the Mac n Cheese w/ chicken and oh my gosh was it amazing! Came with soup of the day, or salad. I got a ceasar salad and my boyfriend got chicken noodle soup. Both were really good. We got there around closing time so the rolls were really hard.. but our mistake. Our waiter was super friendly, especially considering we stopped in so late. Even a week later I feel as though i should have tipped her more.. :)

Impressive for a diner! We had lobster and filet for $15 with salad or soup and choice of potato. We will go there again.

My husband and I come here a lot for breakfast. It's very clean, great atmosphere, very friendly staff. Great food, although we have only tried the breakfast and lunch menu. I prefer this location to the one on 41 because this one doesn't have a ventriloquist and extremely creepy looking puppet walking around. Lol!

Basically this spot is risk free. I like a sure thing for breakfast when i rarely do, and when your kickstarting your vacation you dont want a bad start. Great value, nice menu options, clean spot and friendly staff. Hope it stays this way. 5 stars based on the others in this area.

Went here while visiting the parents as they raved about it after they moved down here. They kept talking about the must have ribs. Our table ordered the following : 3 slabs of ribs - nice sauce and so-so tenderness Gutbuster Burger - definitely a knife and fork job but tasty Surf and turf - nice steak and a small 4 oz tail Shrimp a la Roma - a nice pasta with a generous amount of shrimp The waitress was outstanding! She had a great demeanor and impeccable memory. She seemed to know everyone by name. The place was nice and had typical diner faire. It obviously was a hot spot for the silver haired folks!

Mel's is a throw back to the days of great diners. Good food at great prices. Nothing fancy here - hey it's a diner. You can get an open face sandwich with sides and a salad for 10 bucks. Well drinks start at 3.50 vs top shelf at 4.50. The wait staff are warm and friendly - regulars even get hugs from the hostess.

Went to visit the beau's grandparents in North Fort Myers and we came here for Thanksgiving dinner. It was pretty much a set menu, so I can't speak for the rest of their food but what we ate was pretty tasty. I gobble gobbled up the mashed potatoes and gravy, the turkey was pretty good and the turkey soup was quite yummy. Best thing about this place? Their drink prices! Holy crap, a mixed drink for $5??!!!? I want a Mel's in Miami!!!

Large menu with a lot of selections. Standard All American comfort food. I've been here often when in town visiting my parents. They like the Turkey dinners, Meatloaf and soups. They've also got good burger w/ fries & Shakes and Fat Sandwiches. Service is usually good with a friendly staff. The decor is interesting, kind of a mod 50's.

I found myself 1200 miles from home and hungry when I landed my butt in a booth at Mel's Diner. It's difficult for me to give a fair review as I've only been once and simply ordered a Greek salad with chicken (and snuck a couple fries from the lady), but I'll give it a shot and base my review on just the salad, the fries and the service. The veggies were fresh, the dressing; decent but it wasn't exactly how I normally picture a Greek salad. It seems a bit shy on feta and the ingredients made the salad appear to be confused about whether it was truly meant to be a Greek salad or was actually a house salad with olives trying to sell itself as something more. Portion-wise, it was generous and filling. The fries seemed underdone and kinda on the bland side. Our waiter was attentive and efficient. Our service was A-OK, as the Yelpers say (hey, that rhymes!) . If I find my butt looking for a seat in the Cape Coral area again, I'd certainly entertain the idea of revisiting Mel's.

I like this place. This is our "breakfast out" place. Food is good, service is good. Prices are a little high I feel, but at least it's good! Never had lunch or dinner so can't comment on that. But, if you are looking for a solid hot breakfast, this is your place!

Food was ok. For a 2 for 20 meal. We had the meat loaf. My husband cleaned the plate. I had the braised beef. Not my kind of ribs. But good. 20 included soup, salad entre and shared brownie and ice cream. No bad for 20

We were there for dinner and had the Philly Cheese Steak sandwich and the Mel's club sandwich. I specifically asked my Philly without mushrooms and was brought one with mushrooms. After I removed them all, the sandwich was okay but I've had better. It came with fries and cole slaw. Fries were good but the slaw was too sweet for me. My husband had a Cappuccino and to his surprise there was sugar already in it. Lots of sugar. Since he likes it without, it was sort of a let down. We had the banana split and the brownie delight for desert. Both were okay. The service was good, no complaints. There was a child's birthday table next to us and I would take my child there anytime. A party hat, cupcakes with stars in them and several candles. The servers sang happy birthday and we're very friendly with him. He had a great time we could tell. A lot of the customers were retired folks and they enjoyed seeing the little boy's face light up. All in all, a nice place to eat if you're on a budget.

1/7/12. Back after three months up north. Yes it is crowded, but that,s an indication that they have goog food here. They do. I had grilled shrimp and a baked potato and my wife had the pork tenderloin. Both were excellent. LAst time we downgraded the place because it took 45 minutes to get our check. NOT THIS TIME AS Shirley, our server, was excellent.

Food is sub par at best! Filthy restrooms and management is very unprofessional. I used to enjoy the food here but as of late has been absolutely horrible
